Geneva Freed, age 80 of Auburn, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Garrett.
She was born on September 2, 1945 in Garrett, Kentucky to Joe and Goldie (Whitaker) Crager.
Geneva married Richard LeRoy Freed on July 25, 1963 in Auburn. Richard resides in Auburn.
She worked for Essex in Auburn for many years during the 1970’s and 1980’s before retiring to take care of her ageing mother, raise her family and care for her grandkids. Geneva was a longtime, active member of the Waterloo Freewill Baptist Church. She and Richard always had a large garden and they enjoyed canning the food that they grew. Most important to Geneva was spending time with her family.
Survivors include:
Her husband of 62 years, Richard Freed of Auburn.
Daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Mark Majdecki of Auburn.
Son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Jill Freed of Fort Wayne.
Four grandchildren, Keri Majdecki (Matt Barrett), Kayla Majdeck (Logan Shank), Allen (Gabby) Mason and Samuel Freed.
Six brothers, Mitchell Crager, Robert Crager, Millard Crager, Joe Jr. Crager, Richard Crager and James Crager.
Three sisters, Goldie Sherman, Joyce Strabbing and Judy Wilson.
Many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bill Crager, Sherman Crager, Larry Crager and Donny Crager and four sisters, Lois Wilson, Kathy Crager, Thelma Collins and Margie Handshoe.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna.
