George Henry Obituary

George Burton Henry, 95, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 5, 1929, in Kendallville, Indiana, to Genevieve and Glenn Henry, George graduated from Kendallville High School in 1948. He then entered the U.S. Navy, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman. He received training at Great Lakes before being stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. George was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, B Company, 1st Medical Battalion, and served in California, Japan, and Korea before being discharged after a year back at Great Lakes.

After his honorable discharge, George worked for the railroad at Garrett before marrying the love of his life, Carole Heffley, in 1952. Together, they moved to a farm east of Auburn, where George worked alongside his father-in-law in the farming business. He served as the president of the Farm Bureau Coop Board of Directors for 20 years and was known for his dedication to agriculture and his community.

George’s love for his family was evident in everything he did. He is survived by his wife, Carole, with whom he shared 72 wonderful years of marriage; his two children, Mark (Mary) Henry of Auburn and Shayne (Jan) Lepper of Auburn; and his three grandchildren, Ashleigh (Matt) Adams of Centerville, Ohio, Mitchell (Violet) Thomas of Fort Wayne, and Tyler Henry of Denver, Colorado. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Reid Adams, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy Root, and brother John Henry.

George was a passionate supporter of Purdue University sports, and he was a long-time member of the John Purdue Club. He attended many Purdue basketball and football games, cherishing those moments with his family and friends. He was also a past member of Norris Chapel.

In addition to his love for his family and Purdue sports, George was dedicated to serving his community. He was deeply involved in his local farm community, and his kindness and generosity were evident to all who knew him.

George will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family, his commitment to his community, and his quiet strength. He will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
