Harold “Flip” Flueckiger passed away peacefully at the age of 71 in DeKalb County, Indiana on Monday, November 15 following a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s disease.
Flip was born on December 13, 1949, in Wooster, Ohio to Irene Hart and Raymond Flueckiger. He spent his childhood in Ohio and Pennsylvania before moving to Butler, Indiana and becoming a lifelong Hoosier, graduating from Eastside High School in the class of 1968. Upon earning his Bachelor of Education from Indiana University (Bloomington) in 1974 he settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
In 1985, Flip began a 27-year career with Auburn Gear, during which time he also earned his Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University. After retiring in 2012, he returned to DeKalb County to spend his final years surrounded by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Irene and Raymond; his first wife Mary (Bailey) Flueckiger; and his siblings Robert “Gerb” Gerber and Victoria “Vickie” Hopkins.
He is survived by his wife Amy Loyd of Auburn, Indiana; his two children Brian (Carolyn) of Downers Grove, Illinois and Scott (Tiffany) Flueckiger of Bristow, Virginia; his step-daughter Erin (Dom) Norton of Auburn, Indiana; his grandchildren Owen, Sophia, Margot, Jackson, Iris, Sasha, Hazel, Louis, and Jane; and his siblings Charles “Tom” (Jean) Haupert of Butler, and Cheri (Ed) Beerbower of Auburn.
Flip will be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and a dear friend to all who knew him.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.
A brief memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home following the gathering of friends and family with Brother Bud Owen officiating.
