Hayden Ankney Obituary

Hayden E. Ankney, age 90, of Auburn passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at his Auburn home.

Mr. Ankney was born November 12, 1930 in Howard City, Michigan to Alphonso and Daphne (Hyzer) Ankney. 

He married Norma J. (Hoffer) Sproat on April 24, 1982 in Auburn.  She resides in Auburn.    

Mr. Ankney worked for the Hubbard Spool Company in Garrett for over 30 years retiring in 1994.  He also worked for DeKalb Memorial Hospital during the same time for over 20 years retiring in 1982. 

He enjoyed a very active life.  He liked fishing, making his own fishing lures, hunting, camping, bowling and being outdoors.  He enjoyed boating and taking his grandkids skiing and tubing and he spent countless hours tinkering in his garage.  He and Norma also drove cars for Ben Davis in Auburn for 3 or 4 years.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his dogs.  Hayden was very loving and caring and would do anything for anybody.  He will be greatly missed!

Son and daughter-in-law; Philip and Lynn Ankney of Bedford, Indiana.

Daughter; Janet Cook of Michigan.

Son and daughter-in-law; Ron and Janis Sproat of Cree Lake, Indiana.

Daughter; Phyllis Brown of Auburn.

Daughter; Kathy Johnson of Auburn.

Son and daughter-in-law; Mike and Jodie Sproat of Arizona.

Daughter and son-in-law; Donna and Gary Fry of Auburn.

21 grandchildren and their spouses; Amber Ankney, Courtney Ankney, Erin Ankney, Leah Ankney, Lilly Ankney, Chris and Lezlie Cook, Bernie and Becky Cook, Josh and Katie Cook, Mark and Laurie Heller, Greg and Mindy Brown, Tim and Amy Tropp, Chad and Angie Depew, Scott and Stacey Sproat, Greg and Tiffany Norton, Erick and Mariah Keirn, Stewart and Cissandra Metz, Dawn and Chris Gilvin, Jessica and Isiah Jordan, Stacey and Jon DeCamp, Dennis Fry and Denise Fry.

42 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren and 6 great great great grandchildren.

Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Marna Ankney, brother; Carl Ankney, 2 sisters; Hazel Littlefield and Wava Williams and 2 sons-in-law; Denny Brown and Al Johnson. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.  Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral service from 10:00 to 11:00.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home in Auburn with D.V. Dillinger officiating. 

Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.

Memorial donations may be directed to Parkview Home Health and Hospice, 1900 Carew Street, Suite 6, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46805.
