Kendallville – Helen L Holbrook, passed away March 30, 2026 at her home in the presence of her family just the way she wanted. Helen married Robert L Holbrook on June 19, 1977. They would have celebrated their 48th Wedding anniversary this June.
Helen and Robert enjoyed farming and 4H for many years with the kids and made some true life long friendships over that time
Helen couldn't wait for Robert retire from the railroad so he could be her partner in crime running her to more garage sales and auctions than we could ever count.
Her most relaxing hobby was to go out work on her flowers. She could take a sick one and make it healthy again. When she was working in her flower beds Robert and Rick would work in the garden so they could give away produce to those who may need it. Both Robert and Helen taught their kids and grandkids how to keep a garden and how to take care of flowers.
During the summer months and on weekends during school year Helen loved to keep as many of the grandchildren as possible. She and Robert loved taking them out on the lake swimming and fishing with them. They also loved to try to rotate them all on summer vacations. They never went on a trip without a few grandkids.
They all have so many wonderful memories of their time spent with grandma and grandpa. Helen and Robert were truly a dynamic duo.
Helen also loved to spend time with her brother Rick, looking for treasures a few days a week when they could. She also was grateful he took Robert to all his treatment.
Helen had a career as a realtor and took pride in selling homes and in all the surrounding counties. Her favorite job was mother and homemaker. She made every home she lived in exquisite. One year her home was included in the Garrett City Christmas walk one year which was an example of how she loved to decorate . She was everyone’s favorite cook to her, everything she made was simple. Helen’s grandchildren plan to carry down her recipes to the next generation. Another thing that she loved was camping in her Retro at Twin Mills all summer the last few years.
Surviving are 2 daughters and a son, Joei Gust and her husband Andrew, Sarah Holbrook-Boyd and her husband David, and Josh Holbrook and his partner Trisha; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a brother Rick Tackett.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Ballard and Ruth Tackett, husband Robert L Holbrook, daughter Larkin Zent, sister, Lillian Leins and brother Franky Tackett. The world will miss Helen and Robert, two wonderful souls that have now gone to heaven with their daughter Larkin and are waiting on the rest of us.
