Butler – James L Smyth, 80, of Butler passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.
He was born November 8, 1944 in Butler to Lemuel G and Rosie Dell (Schrader) Smyth.
Jim was a very proud family man & a hard working farmer and trucker.
He had a passion for watching his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews play ball. He loved watching all of the games he could possibly get to. Jim loved talking with family, friends, and fellow farmers near and far.
He married Mary “Kay” (Gillie) Smyth on October 13, 1983 and she passed away April 7, 2003, he then married Donna Barber in 2012 and she passed away in June of 2022.
He is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons, Karla (Kevin) Kimpel of Spencerville, Kim (Dick) Reed of Hamilton, Jason (Tina) Smyth of Butler, Tracy (Ryan) Smith of Waterloo and Roger (Shaleen) Smyth of Hamilton; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Janet Krieger of Churubusco, Linda Blackburn of Bryan, Ohio and Margaret “Maggie” (Douglas) Upp of Butler and his former wife Jackie Smyth of Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives, granddaughter, Chantel Wells, sister, Jane Smyth and 2 brothers, Charlie Smyth and Frank Smyth.
Services will be 11 AM Tuesday June 17, 2025 at Feller ands Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, IN 46793 with burial to follow the service in Hamilton, Cemetery, Hamilton. Calling is Monday from 3 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials can be given in memory of James to the DeKalb County 4-H Club. To send condolences to the family visit www.fellerandclark.com.
