Jane Mack Obituary

Jane E. Mack, age 91 of Auburn, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at DuPont Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born on August 12, 1932 in Alexandria, Indiana to Garland and Josephine (Hoff) Shafer.   

Jane married Frederick Joseph “Joe” Mack on September 18, 1954 in Alexandria.  He preceded her in death on September 27, 1999. 

She worked at Foamex in Auburn in production scheduling for 19 years, retiring in 1997.  Jane was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn.  She also belonged to and was active in the Auburn Garden Club and their Strawberrys in the Park festival, NurFurUns luncheon club, Cenacle, Tri Kappa Sorority in Alexandria, the Monday Morning Prayer Group the Garden Walk in Auburn and she was a past choir member.

She also helped decorate the church sanctuary and helped maintain Courtyard Park in Auburn.  Jane enjoyed volunteering her free time working at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum.  She was also known for placing luminaries around her neighborhood on Christmas Eve for the last 32 years, growing it every year.     

Survivors include:

Daughter; Julie Mack of Atwood Lake.

Daughter and son-in-law; Anne and Robert Nicholas of Fort Wayne.

Son and daughter-in-law; Tom and Robin Mack of Leo.

Five grandchildren and their spouses; Andrew Somers (Michelle Mettert), Ashley and Brandon Toliver, Cameron and Sarah Mack, Chloe and Mitch Schaefer and Christian Mack (Paige Wilson).

Eight great grandchildren; Lucy Mack Somers, Julian Somers, Amelia Mack, Thomas Mack, Charles Mack, Elliott Schaefer, August Schaefer and Westin Mack.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Joe Mack, an infant daughter; Mary, sister and brother-in-law; Helen and William “Bill” Stallings and brother and sister-in-law; Dr. Richard and Joan Shafer.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 East Seventh Street in Auburn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00 AM on Tuesday morning with Father Mark Enemali officiating.

Burial will take place at the Auburn Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 East Seventh Street, Auburn, Indiana 46706.
