Janice Elaine (Houser) Leas

Janice Elaine Leas, age 85 of Auburn, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 at StoryPoint in Fort Wayne.

She was born on March 1, 1940 in Garrett to Wilson “Mike” and Dora (Surfus) Houser.  Jan was raised in the Altarstar United Methodist Church and she was a 1958 graduate of Garrett High School.    

Over the years Jan worked for Midwest Life Insurance in Fort Wayne, Indiana Bell Telephone Company in Auburn, Messengers in Auburn, Cracker Barrel in Fort Wayne and the DeKalb Central Schools, retiring in 2006.

She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, antiquing and she was a talented piano player.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Survivors include:

Daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dave Long of Auburn.

Daughter, Tish Hart and Steve Ross of New Haven.

Three grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Ronnie Dobson, Travis and Rebecca Ort and Jonathon Hart.

Seven great grandchildren.

Sister-in-law, Deloris Houser of Auburn.

Sister-in-law, Vicky Houser of LaPorte, Indiana.

Many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Richard Leas and two brothers, Marvin Houser and John Houser.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center Street in Auburn.

Funeral services will follow the visitation on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Kim Nusbaum officiating.

Burial will take place at the Cedar Creek Cemetery southwest of Auburn.

Memorial donations may be given in memory of Jan to the Alzheimer's Association, 50 East 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
