Janis L. (Welty) Burlingame

Janis L. Burlingame, 79, of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born August 24, 1946, in Three Rivers, Michigan to Robert L. and M. Eloise (Harrison) Welty.

Janis was a graduate of Franklin High School. She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Alma College in Alma, Michigan.

She married Robert F. Burlingame on July 27, 1968, in Livonia, Michigan, and he passed away February 20, 2021.

Janis was an English teacher, did embroidery for Sportsarama, and served as secretary for Burlingame Insurance and Ayres Insurance Group in Sturgis, Michigan.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Janis enjoyed playing the violin, was in the Handbell choir, enjoyed Zumba with her friends, and going to dinner with her friends and family.   

Surviving are two children, Craig R. Burlingame of Homer, Michigan, and Lisa A. and Trent Hoffman of Fort Wayne; three granddaughters, Morganne Burlingame, Holly Hoffman, and Eve Hoffman; and a brother, Richard L. Welty of Brooklyn, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Per Janis’s request, no services will be taking place.

Burial will take place at Constantine Township Cemetery in Constantine, Michigan.
