Jannis May (Becker) Tuttle, 90, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at The Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler, Indiana.
Jannis was born March 25, 1933, in Kendallville, Indiana to Ralph C. and Miriam A. (Warble) Becker.
She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1951.
On Oct. 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, James L. Tuttle. They had four children, Stuart and Debra (twins), and Jeff and Larry. Jannis loved being a mother, and her children were always her first priority.
She loved to cook and garden. She loved watching her boys play baseball and other sports and was always there to help with all her children’s activities. She also loved helping with all the activities at the DeKalb County Coon Hunters Club.
Jannis was always there to help her nine siblings with any problems they had, and she had such a giving heart.
She worked at several jobs, but loved her job at DeKalb High School, where she was a janitor and then a cook in the cafeteria. She often taught her many co-workers how to cook and make the best gravy.
She is survived by four children, Stuart Tuttle and his wife, Jena, Debra Tuttle Rhodes, Jeff Tuttle and his wife, Vickie, and Larry Tuttle; 17 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; sister, Rozanne Becker; and numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Tuttle; son-in-law, Mark Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Brandy Tuttle; six sisters, Katherine, Louise, Marjorie, Nancy, Linda and Victoria Becker; and two brothers, Ralph Becker Jr., and Richard Becker.
A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with Gabe Pranger officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, prior to the service at the funeral home.
