Jerry Claxton, aged 71, passed away peacefully on April 18 after a long and courageous fight with Lewy Body Dementia. J

erry was born in Garrett, IN on July 26, 1953 to the late Leo and Esther Claxton. After graduating from Garrett High School in 1971, Jerry was hired at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne where he worked for the next 49 years! Jerry was passionate about his work and loved the people he worked with. He was affectionately known as Spanky to his coworkers.

Jerry married Deborah Lampe in Avilla, Indiana on October 30, 1976; this past October saw them celebrate 48 years of loving marriage. They have two sons - Scott (Katie) and Daniel (Katie) and three grandchildren; Ellie, Dean, and Lily.

Jerry spent countless hours coaching and cheering on his boys in all of the sports they played. He also spent much time helping with the Railroader Regiment marching band. One of Jerry’s happiest moments in his final years was when his family threw him a surprise 70th birthday party filled with close family and friends.

In his down time, Jerry enjoyed history, woodworking and crafts with Deb, fishing, and cooking. Jerry also loved a cold Miller Lite (or a number of them), listening to music, and playing euchre with his family and friends. His later years were filled with many great times and memories with his beloved grandchildren.

Jerry is further survived by his siblings Sharon and Skip (Becky), brother in-law Steve (Diane) and sister in-law Lori (Bud), as well as numerous other family and friends.

Jerry’s family would like to thank Homme Adult Day Center and Primrose Memory Care for their care of Jerry in the earlier stages of his illness. A heartfelt thanks also goes out to the Aspirus Hospice House staff for their tremendous compassion & care for Jerry during his final year.

Visitation will be at Feller & Clark Funeral Home in Auburn, IN on Friday, April 25th from 4pm to 8pm and on Saturday, April 26 from 1pm to 2pm. The memorial service will take place at Feller & Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26 at 2pm. Burial will take place at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Auburn, IN after the memorial service.
