Jerry Lee Singleton

Jerry Lee Singleton, 70 of Auburn passed away Monday, May 11, 2026 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born April 29, 1956 in Auburn to Lavon and Doris (Groff) Singleton. His father has passed away; his mother survives in Auburn.

Jerry was a 1974 graduate of DeKalb High School where he was a standout athlete in Basketball and Track & Field. He earned all-conference honors in basketball and specialized in the shot put and discus throw, setting a school record. Jerry was a lifelong athlete after high school, playing volleyball, golf, softball, badminton, and cornhole.

He was Director of Environmental Services at DeKalb Memorial / Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn. He served the hospital for 40 years before retiring in 2021. Jerry was known to be able to fix anything and everything.

Jerry’s other interests revolved around his family. He was a devoted husband and father, taking an active interest in his children’s sports and school activities. He served as a coach for several Garrett Railroader varsity athletic teams, including softball, girls’ basketball, and boys’ basketball. He also coached a number of youth leagues and left an enduring impact among his community. He was a man of quiet restraint whose wisdom, warmth, and integrity were a shining example to everyone around him.

He married Beth Penland on July 26, 1980 in Auburn and she survives.

Also surviving are 2 daughters and a son, Natalie Singleton (Jordan Treharn) of Cleveland, Ohio, Kelly Singleton (Logan Treaster) of Indianapolis and Matthew Singleton (Shannon Williams) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Deb Howey (Steve) of Auburn and Linda McKean (Roger) of Auburn; 2 sisters-in-law, Kim Penland (Rene’ DePew) of Leo and Gay Penland of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, Harvey Penland, mother-in-law, Barb Penland and brother-in-law, Pat Penland.

Services will be 11 AM Tuesday May 19, 2026 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN. Calling is Monday from 2 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
