Jerry passed away peacefully at his home, gone from our sight, but to his heavenly home on Wednesday morning October 8, 2025.
His passing left a large hole in his family. First and foremost, Jerry loved his wife, Sharon. Their 5 children and spouses, 15 grandchildren and their spouses and 24 great grandchildren. He never tired of telling everyone about them. He always added “there isn’t a rotten apple in the bunch”.
Jerry married Sharon (Wolfe) in Mexico, Indiana on June 27, 1958. They were married 67 years.
He was born October 5, 1937, at home, in Mexico, Indiana and loved telling people that he was “born and raised in Mexico” which always brought a questioning look or comment. Then he would tell them, Indiana. His parents were Ellis George and Mabel (Fincher) Staller.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Kerry (Becky) Staller of Garrett, Kirk (RobinAnne) of Battlecreek, Michigan, Kathy (Jerry) Murphy of Clayton, Ohio, Kristopher (Karla) Staller of Benson, Arizona and Konnie (Mike) Schultz of Angola, Indiana. 15 grandchildren and 12 spouses, 24 great grandchildren plus one expected next spring. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Judd of Garrett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Staller; a grandson, Nathaniel Staller and his brother, Donald Staller.
Jerry graduated from International Business College in 1958. He was employed as an accountant by Seyfert Foods, Mercury Marine, Havel Brothers and King Weyler Equipment Company.
He served as Butler Township Trustee in DeKalb County for the past 19 years.
Jerry was a man of many talents; he remodeled four of the homes that the family lived in. The most intensive remodel was a 200-year-old house on Wallen Road in Fort Wayne, he and his boys spent 28 years remodeling the house. It was empty and badly in need of repair when they bought it. After years of hard work it still stands there today proud and beautiful.
Sharon and Jerry moved to DeKalb County 32 years ago. They purchased a house in the country again, with five acres. He immediately added a large pole barn and separate wood working shop in which he could pursue his love of auto repair/restoration and woodworking. He continually worked on this house, adding a porch, restoring/adding on to the front deck, painting the house red, with a paintbrush because it had “board and batten” siding that soaked up the paint.
He loved gardening and canning the produce. Helping others with anything that he could, repairing their cars, landscaping their yards, providing fruit or produce to neighbors and church members.
He had a servant’s heart.
He loved traveling and with Sharon, they were blessed to visit many beautiful places, the Oregon coast, Tennessee, Alaska, Arizona, and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, were favorites.
He was a member of Auburn Alliance Church and served many years as a member of the Trustee Board.
He will be missed. Thank you, Lord, for his life.
We want to thank Parkview Hospice for their Excellent and Compassionate care. Especially his primary nurse Emily.
