John W. Pierce, Jr., age 79 of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Laurels of DeKalb in Butler.
He was born on August 10, 1945 in Auburn to John W. Pierce, Sr. and Marilyn (Staley) Pierce.
John honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a load master for the C-130 Hercules airplane.
He married Phyllis Ann Heisler on November 2, 1968 at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2019.
John worked for Metaldyne in Fremont for many years before his retirement. He was a member of the Butler American Legion and Kessler Kountry Line Dancing. He enjoyed fishing and playing games on his computer. Family was very important to John and he loved spending time with them, especially his grandkids.
Survivors include:
Daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Scott Boxberger of McCordsville, Indiana.
Son, Gary Pierce of Butler.
Two grandchildren, Jeffrey Boxberger and Paige Boxberger.
Sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Monarch of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
Two nephews, Perry Patterson and Shane Patterson.
Many cousins and other extended family members.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Phyllis Pierce.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at the Butler Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of John to the donor’s choice.
