John A. Roop, 78, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at his home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1944, in Auburn, Indiana, to Joseph F. and Mary V. (Shoudel) Roop.
He was a 1962 graduate of Auburn High School and then attended Electronic Computer Program Institute in Fort Wayne.
John married Vonda L. Harrold on May 9, 1981, in Garrett, Indiana, and she survives in Fort Wayne.
He was a manufacturing engineer at Auburn Gear in Auburn for 42 years, retiring in 2005.
John was a member of County Line Church of God in rural Auburn.
He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Auburn and American Legion Post 178 in Garrett.
Also surviving are three children and their spouses, Timothy and Julie Roop, of Woodburn, Sherri and Kevin Lechleidner, of St. Joe and Amy and Chet Castator, of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren, Rob Lude, Steven Robinson, Hayley Calloway, Madison McCloskey, Colin Valiton, Alana Southwood, Damon Colbart, MiKayla Colbart, Kourtney Mixon, Trevor Lechleidner, Annamarie Lechleidner and Nathan Benbow; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Roop, of Fort Wayne; aunt, Patricia Cline, of Butler; and a cousin, Vicki Krueger, of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Vickie Roop; and an uncle, Roger Cline.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 10, 2022, at County Line Church of God, 7716 N. County Line Road, Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., on Friday, prior to the service.
Pastor Steve Schlatter will be officiating.
Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Visitation also will be from 4-8 p.m., on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.
