John "Jedd" Copenhaver, 88, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Jedd was born on August 19, 1937, in Abingdon, Virginia, to George Edd and Louise (Salmon) Copenhaver.
On August 18, 1962, he married the love of his life, Linda Roberson, in Clifton Forge, Virginia. They shared nearly 64 years of marriage together. Linda survives and resides in Auburn.
Jedd dedicated more than 34 years of service to the railroad industry. Throughout his career, he worked in various positions in Virginia, West Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana before retiring in 2006 from CSX in Garrett, Indiana. Jedd continued serving the railroad industry following his retirement, working for nearly ten years as a federal railroad crossing inspector with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
He was actively involved in numerous civic and professional organizations. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Auburn and a 40 year member of the United Methodist Men's Club. He also participated in the Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, Elks, Rotary Club, ACD Museum Pit Crew, and the American Railway Engineering Association. Jedd also served as the president of Greenhurst Country Club in Auburn. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Linda Copenhaver; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Ann Copenhaver of Angola; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Galen Anspaugh of Auburn; four grandchildren and their spouses, Alex and Samantha Yarian, Sam and Payton Yarian, Levi and Samantha Copenhaver and Brooke and CJ Maley; six great grandchildren, Jude, Wells, Eva Jane, Adlee, Tinley and Noah; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Joe Rill of Springfield, Virginia and Judy and Mike Shortridge of Abingdon, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Dee Copenhaver of Roanoke, Virginia and Ruth Roberson of Edgewood, Kentucky and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Jedd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Copenhaver and brother-in-law, Clayton Roberson, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Auburn, 1203 East Seventh Street in Auburn.
Funeral services will be follow the visitation at the church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Barton officiating.
Burial will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Jedd to the First United Methodist Church of Auburn and the ACD Museum.
