St. Joe – Jonathan “John” R. Lentz, 93, of Fort Wayne/St. Joe, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.

John was born on November 7, 1931, in Warren, Ohio, to the late John and Edith Lentz.

A proud veteran, John honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, earning his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana Tech. His distinguished career as an electrical engineer spanned several defense companies in Texas and Florida, ultimately retiring from Raytheon in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

John shared a loving marriage with Drusilla L. Preston for over 37 years until her passing in 1997. He later found companionship and had a loving marriage for over 21 years to Jackie Cummins, until her passing in 2022.

He is survived by his devoted children: sons Richard L. (Donna L.) Lentz of St. Joe, and Stephen L. (Becki J.) Lentz of Stanwood, Michigan; and daughter Linda L. Lentz of Fishers. John also leaves behind two stepchildren, five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Beverly, of Arizona, along with her extended family.

John will be deeply missed by his Family and Friends whose lives he touched with his kindness and warmth. His legacy of love and friendship will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne. Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be given to Parkview Hospice.
