Karen J. McFarland, 84, of The Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, formerly of Hamilton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn, Indiana, on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023.
Karen was born on March 21, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, to Charles W. and Bernice V. Maguire.
She attended Litchfield Community Schools, graduated in 1957, and completed two years of Elementary Education at Michigan State University.
She married Larry L. Moore in 1959, divorced in 1972, then married Jackie Ray (Jack) McFarland in 1976, in Reading, Michigan, and he survives.
Karen worked at the Print ’N Post as a Layout/Design Technician (1970-1976) and at Gametime Inc., as a Specification Technician (1976-1979), both in Litchfield, Michigan. Karen and Jack moved to Anna, Ohio in 1979, to manage a Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppe until 1984, and in 1985, Karen worked at Honda in Marysville, Ohio, as a Security Secretary. In 1994, they moved to Hamilton, Indiana, to be near their grandkids. She then worked at ColorMaster Inc., in Butler as a receptionist until 2001. She was a homemaker until she went to The Laurels of DeKalb, Butler, Indiana, in 2021.
Karen was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in rural Waterloo, Indiana.
She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She liked to make people laugh and was loved by everyone she encountered; always so kind and humble, always ready to help. She was the best mom and grandma ever!
Also surviving are three children, Carie L. (Philip) Schlink of Waterloo, Indiana, Martin K. (Marty) Moore, of Greenville, South Carolina, and Kelly S. (Luke Lang) Moore, of Lakeville, Ohio; a brother Martin (Krenlyn) Maguire, of Burien, Washington; a sister-in-law, Sylvia (Sue) Burger, of Reading, Michigan; three grandchildren, Kristen K. Moore, Alexander P. Schlink and Benjamin P. Schlink; and one great-grandchild, Olivia K. Walkup. Several nieces and nephews also survive, including Cynthia (Kirk) Wigen, of LaCrosse, Washington.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael P. Moore; grandson, Dylan M. Moore; and niece, Dawn M. Maguire.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1098 C.R. 39, Waterloo, Indiana, with Fr. Levi Nkwocha officiating, followed by internment at Hamilton Cemetery.
There will be lunch provided at the church.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, prior to the service at the church.
