Laurine Skelly Obituary

Laurine Esther Skelly, 95, of rural Waterloo, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025.

Laurine was born on February 6, 1929, in Fairfield Township to Earnest and Daisy (Perkins) Pairan. She was a lifetime resident of DeKalb County.

She was an active member and life deacon of the Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren. She belonged to the Ladies Aid of the church and loved playing the piano for different occasions.

Laurine was a 1947 graduate of Ashley High School.

Laurine enjoyed the great outdoors, working on the farm, gardening, loved to color, doing puzzles and spending time with her family. She was a Homemaker and also worked for a time in the school cafeteria for the DeKalb Central School District.

On January 1, 1949, she married Harold Skelly and together they raised a family of eight children. She is survived by Janet Ramsey of Fort Wayne, Amos (Marge) Skelly, of Corunna, Marvin (Julie) Skelly of Ashley, Martha (Roger) Tubbs of Hudson, Darwin Skelly of Waterloo, and Linda Skelly of Auburn; former son in law, Paul Thomas and his wife Cheryl of Lake Gage; Nine grandchildren, Jeremy Skelly of Montgomery, IL, Jaclyn (Tom) Considine of Lake Zurich, IL, Jake (Courtney) Skelly of Eau Claire, MI, James (Rachel) Ramsey of Elm Grove, WI, Rachel (Cortney) Harrison of Monrovia, Brent Tubbs of Hudson, Adrianne (George Baacke) Thomas of Cortez, CO, Lisa Tubbs of Westerville, OH, and Tammy (Jason) Spencer of Norton Shores, MI; Twelve great-grandchildren, Luke Skelly, Tyson Harrison, Caffrey Considine, Dylan Harrison, Teagan Considine, Sam Skelly, Kian Baacke, Elias Baacke, Margaret Ramsey, Avery Spencer, Jack Ramsey, Baby Girl Spencer on the way and 2 step great grandchildren, Aspen Zencka and Sierra Zencka.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harold Skelly; a son, James Skelly; a daughter, Marlene Thomas; brother, Wayne Pairan; daughter-in-law, Carol Skelly; and son-in-law, Dean Ramsey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren, 1993 C.R. 8, Ashley, IN, 46705, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church. Pastor Valarie Kline will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in rural Corunna, IN. Visitation also will be from 2 to 7 PM Thursday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S.
