Fort Wayne – Leland Jay Liechty, born January 12, 1949, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 14, 2024, with his wife and children by his side.
Jay loved helping others and was gifted with skills in so many areas to be a blessing to those in need.
His favorite hobby was guns and reloading ammunition for his firearms. He loved being with others like minded and could talk hours on the subject!
Jay also enjoyed playing his trombone. Special thanks are given to First Assembly of God, on West Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne, for including him in their orchestra and giving him the opportunity to play with them so often.
Jay was a Navy Veteran and was proud to be so. We thank Fort Wayne VA Hospital Oncology for their care during his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jay is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Schladenhauffen Liechty; his daughter, Angela (Adrian) Engelberth; his son Derek (Molly) Liechty; and his five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amara, Ethan, Charles, and Ewan. Also surviving is his stepmother, Ruth Kehr Liechty and eight siblings, Naomi Johnson, Ken (Marvina) Liechty, Harold (Marta) Liechty, James (Chris) Liechty, Roberta Taritas, Paul (Donna) Liechty, Carol (Rudy) Casiano, and Curtis (Joy) Liechty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Liechty and a brother, Lester Liechty. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Grace Summit Church, 5903 East DuPont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825, at 2:00 PM with visitation from 1 to 2 PM prior to the service Saturday.
