Linda Louise Coffman, 83, passed away quietly in her sleep on Monday, March 13, 2023 at her home in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Linda was born January 15, 1940 to Lloyd and Edna (Dill) Hazen in Plainwell, Michigan, the younger of two children.
Linda graduated in 1958 from Hopkins High School in Hopkins, Michigan. She then pursued studies in healthcare at the Kalamazoo Practical Nursing Center. Linda completed her studies then passed the Michigan State Boards to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1959. It was during this time, she met her handsome future husband. Lester and Linda were married shortly afterwards in June of 1960.
When Lester entered Officer Training School in the United States Air Force, Linda remained behind at the Hazen family farm. She joined her husband in Texas once his training was completed and he was assigned his first station.
Over the course of her nursing career, she acquired Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana state licenses. She worked in several city hospitals but especially enjoyed working to provide care for geriatric patients in long-term care facilities and also as a private duty nurse.
Like many women who work outside the home, she maintained a household and raised two children. She was an accomplished seamstress, kept a large vegetable garden and loved spending time with her family.
Following retirement, Linda continued volunteering in ways that allowed her to help others. She was involved with both the Allen County Council on Aging and the Chapter II Volunteer Nursing programs. Naturally, she was also primary caregiver for her husband for many months when he became incapacitated until his passing in 2017.
Linda has been active member of the church throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Christ’s Community Church and completed training to serve within the Stephen Ministry in 2019. She always loved studying the Word of God and has been quite involved in a Bible Study Fellowship and her weekly Ladies Church Group.
Linda is survived by her son, Christopher Coffman, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and daughter, Carol (Mark) Beber, of Auburn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents and her brother Frank.
