Martin H. Norden

Martin H. Norden, 84, of Garrett, passed away, Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at his son’s home in Avilla.

He was born September 1, 1941, Fort Wayne, Indiana to Herman and Mela (Sunderman) Norden.

Martin married Doris A. Blomeke on April 20, 1963, in Avilla, Indiana, and she passed away on January 12, 2019.

He worked for Kraft Foods in Kendallville for 40 years, retiring in 1999.

Martin had a farm in Garrett and enjoyed farming his entire life. He also was an avid woodworker having created numerous pieces of furniture for family to enjoy.  

Surviving are four children, Melinda Newman of Garrett, Michael (Joan) Norden of Avilla, Jeffery Norden of LaOtto, and Jennifer (Tony) Rogness of South Bend; three grandchildren, Jessica (Alex) King, Ryan Norden and Luke Norden; great granddaughter, Victoria King; three sisters, Doris Hess of Huntertown, Bonnie (Ron) Buuck of Ossian, and Janet (Mike) Hackman of Columbus; sister-in-law, Glee Norden of Avilla; and brother-in-law, Dave Heiman of Avilla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Rhonda Norden; son-in-law, Scott Newman; brother, Donald Norden; sister, Betty Heiman; and brother-in-law, George Hess.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with Jerry Weller officiating.

Burial will take place at Christian Union Cemetery in rural Garrett.

Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2026, prior to the service at the funeral home.
