Mary Smith Obituary

Mary Sue Smith, of Auburn, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Kingston at DuPont in Fort Wayne.  Don’t grieve and cry very long for me (okay, maybe a little).  I was in good health up to the end of my days and I was 92 years old, how many people are that lucky.

I was born on May 12, 1932 in Fort Wayne to Walter and Susie (Idle) Roth, two of the neatest people in the world.

I married Estelle L. Smith in Fort Wayne on January 28, 2000, he preceded her in death on August 6, 2013.

I worked as an executive secretary for Navistar in Fort Wayne for over 20 years, retiring in 1994, and I was a member of the Garrett Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include:

Son; Shad Roth of Angola.

Three nieces and their husbands, Ann and Jim Ray of Fort Wayne; Sue Ann and Bill Mayer of Waterloo and Kay Gregg of Houston, Texas.

Two nephews and a spouse, James Slentz of Auburn and Lee and Melinda Hess of Zulu, Indiana.

Three great nieces, Michelle Ray of Fort Wayne; Moneia Slentz and her partner, Troy Hypes of Garrett and Christie Ann Mayer of North Carolina.

One great nephew, Scott Ray of Fort Wayne.

Numerous loving great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and cousins.

Daughter-in-law, Adele Williams of Fort Wayne.

Son-in-law, Bernie and Barb Smith of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Roth; her mother, Susie Emerick; her husband, Estelle Smith; son-in-law, Max Smith, two sisters and their spouses, Joyce and Herb Slentz and Dolores and Don Hess.

See how God filled up my life?  And thanks for helping him do it, I couldn’t have done it without you all!  Besides my wonderful friends of a lifetime, I also found new friends in my second husband’s family.  As I’ve already told you, I’ve been really blessed.  P.S., I’m planning on meeting you all in Heaven!  Maybe we can still take walks?

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Burial will take place at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Memorials may be given in memory of Mary Sue to the Garrett Presbyterian Church, 201 South Franklin Street, Garrett, Indiana 46738.
