Mary Kathryn (Jewett) Troyer

Mary Kathryn Troyer, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville, Indiana.

Mary was born on June 22, 1929, in Shelby, Ohio, to Lester and Mary Elizabeth (Bowman) Jewett.

Mary lived a life defined by her unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. On May 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, Floyd Troyer, in Hillsdale, Michigan. Together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage before Floyd preceded her in death on September 22, 2019.

The couple made their home near Ashley in DeKalb County, where they worked side by side on the family farm while raising their five children. In addition to her many responsibilities on the farm, Mary faithfully managed the family's bookkeeping. She took great pride in caring for her home and was a loving wife, devoted mother, and wonderful homemaker.

Mary's children fondly remember the special childhood she created for them. Family camping trips were filled with adventure, and her thoughtfully prepared meals became treasured memories. A lifelong learner, Mary continually sought opportunities to expand her talents. She took classes in interior design and cake decorating, delighting family and friends with the beautiful wedding cakes she created.

Mary truly embodied the meaning of commitment. She devoted countless hours to creating lasting memories for her children through her creativity, encouragement, and involvement in their activities. She also generously gave her time in service to her community.

She was a member of the DeKalb County Extension Homemakers and remained a faithful, lifelong member of Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren.

Mary is survived by her children, Penny (Jim) Sleeper of Ashley, Indiana, Gene (Julie) Troyer of Ashley, Indiana, Patti (Eddy) Carpenter of Florence, Alabama, and Peggy Stone of Denver, Colorado; her brother, Harold Jewett of Fort Wayne, Indiana; many beloved grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Floyd Troyer; her cherished son, Todd Troyer; brothers, Russell, Paul, Lester, and Richard Jewett; and sisters, Della Outhwaite, Martha Jewett, Evelyn Amrine, and Clara Ordway.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren, 1993 CR 8, Ashley, Indiana with Rev. Valarie Kline officiating.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the church.

Burial will follow the service at Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna.

Memorial donations may be directed to Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren in memory of Mary.
