Matthew Murray Obituary

Matthew Wayne Murray, age 62, was welcomed into heaven on November 20, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones.

Matt was born on April 12, 1959 in Auburn, IN. Gifted with a passion for music, he became proficient in piano at an early age. Following his attendance at Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, his exceptional musical talent gave him opportunities to perform with a number of well-known Christian artists throughout his career.

Matt’s focus from the beginning was spreading encouragement through the Gospel, especially to first responders. In the spring following 9/11, he was able to distribute his CD, Never Far From Home, and his men’s daily devotional to thousands of New York City firefighters and policemen.

Matt had a wide range of interests, and put his talents to many different uses—from creating audio/visual productions, scoring the soundtrack of the film Homeless for the Holidays, composing worship songs with Dove Award winners, writing and directing a documentary on the Hotel Lafontaine, to serving as a campaign manager in the 2019 mayoral election in Auburn.

His most recent undertaking became a true passion project, as he had just finished writing a script for a Christian family film, which was projected to be produced at the beginning of 2022. The script, David’s Star, had already been declared one of the winners in the Beyond Entertainment Festival in Canada.

Through it all, he held close to his family and his faith.

Matt is survived by his wife Bev, his daughters Tiffany (Ross) and Brittany (Lapland), his stepsons Chuck and Zech Oberlin, their spouses, his sisters Marla (Bettinger) and Monique (Smith), his eight grandchildren, and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend an Open House for Matt on December 2nd from 4-8 PM. This Celebration of Life will be held at Rieke Park Lodge at 1800 N. Indiana Ave, Auburn, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hearten House Gospel Rescue Mission of Auburn. Donation link can be found on the bottom right corner of their website: https://www.dciconline.org/ways-to-give.html
