Maureen Ann (Chapman) Bixby

Maureen Ann Bixby (Chapman), 84, of Kendallville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 3, 2026.

Maureen was born on February 21, 1942, in Edmonton, London, England. In 1967, she and her husband, Martin Alfred Bixby, immigrated to the United States with their three young children, just $300 to their name, and no one to rely on but each other. Through faith, determination, and hard work, they built a life centered on family, perseverance, and generosity.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin Alfred Bixby, and her son, John Martin Bixby.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Deborah Janney (Mark, deceased), Sally Ann Barker (Mark), and Michael James Bixby (Linda), as well as her daughter-in-law, Beth Bixby; her grandchildren, Jessica Kimbrough, Jenny Krzysik, Bradley Gilliom, David Bixby, Joseph Bixby, Paul Janney, Kathryn Bahena, Nicholas Barker, Jack Bixby, Emily Barker, David Ley, and Elizabeth Tipton; and four cherished great-grandchildren.

Maureen retired from DePuy, a Johnson & Johnson company, where she served as an Activity Coordinator. While she enjoyed her work, those who knew her best understood that her greatest passions were her family, her faith, and competition.

An accomplished distance runner, Maureen possessed extraordinary discipline and determination. At the peak of her running career, she trained up to 120 miles each week and was briefly ranked as the top master’s female distance runner in the United States. Her relentless drive led her to establish multiple Oklahoma master’s state records, several of which still stand today. She approached every challenge with grit, resilience, and an unwavering belief that hard work could overcome almost any obstacle.

Her love of sport extended far beyond running. A proud Englishwoman, she remained a devoted supporter of Tottenham Hotspur and the England National Team, cheering enthusiastically through every victory and defeat.

Those who entered Maureen’s home rarely left without something to take home. Whether it was a bag of groceries, homemade treats, or a kind word of encouragement, giving came naturally to her. She delighted in caring for others, especially during the Christmas season, when family and friends eagerly anticipated her famous Christmas cookies, buckeyes, and traditional English sausage rolls. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, yet she could also be firm and disciplined when the occasion called for it, or, as her family knew all too well, you might receive “The Look.” Fierce, loyal, determined, competitive, generous, and deeply loving, Maureen’s strength was matched only by the size of her heart.

Above all, Maureen was a devoted Christian whose faith in Jesus Christ guided her life. Though she did not belong to a particular church, her trust in Christ was steadfast and was reflected in the compassion, generosity, and love she extended to everyone around her.

Her family will remember her not only for her remarkable accomplishments, but for the countless quiet acts of kindness that defined her life. She leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, generosity, faith, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street in Waterloo.  

Funeral services will follow the vistitaion at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Rev. Robert Craig officiating.

Burial will take place at the Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, Indiana.
