Michael A. Abuja

Michael A. Abuja, 68, of Auburn and formerly of Chicago, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2026, at Auburn Village in Auburn.

He was born on August 20, 1957, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Barbara (Sandberg) Abuja and his adopted father, Kenneth Abuja of Chicago, Illinois.

Mike dedicated more than 20 years of his life to serving others as a paramedic in Chicago before becoming disabled. He married Mary (Spudeas) Abuja until they divorced in 2010. Mike will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his quick wit, and his talent for mentoring and training new paramedics entering the profession.

Survivors include his daughter, Amber Abuja (Thomas Heaton); his beloved brother, Charles Kallas; and other close family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Abuja.

Mike’s compassion, dedication to helping others, and unique personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 11:00 AM at New Hope Christian Center, 5874 CR 427 south of Auburn. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mike’s memory to Warm a Heart Community Outreach, 100 West Railroad Street, Waterloo, Indiana 46793.
