Wolcottville – Neal F Johnson, 78, of Wolcottville passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at his home on Big Long Lake.
He was born June 29, 1946 in Fort Wayne to Calvin and Janice (Bechtel) Johnson.
Neal was a 1965 Graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne and served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.
He worked for 40 years for GTE / Verizon. He was also outside maintenance man for the Rome City American Legion where he was a member.
Neal loved the Lake. He spent his childhood between Fort Wayne and the lake where his parents had a cottage. He spent his entire life living at the lake.
He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Waterloo and St. Mary’s of the Angels Catholic Church of Hudson. He was a big part of the 4th of July Fireworks show on Big Long Lake for many years. He was Past President of Big Long Lake Association, Past member of Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the Fort Wayne Corvette Club. He loved being in the woods riding his John Deere 4-wheeler and tractor.
Neal married Ruth (Buchs) Tuttle on January 23, 1999 in Auburn and she survives.
He is also survived by 2 step sons and their spouses, Brad (Chelsea Boone) Tuttle of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Ryan (Erin) Tuttle of Corunna; 3 grandchildren, Rowan Tuttle, Lola Tuttle and Margot Tuttle; brother, Verl (Linda) Johnson of Fort Wayne, sister, Lois Meyer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe & Tina Buchs of Waterloo, Marie Stafford of Auburn, Rita & Everett Berryhill of Corunna, Joann Walker of Waterloo, Carl & Ellen Buchs of Waterloo, Bernard & Tonya Buchs of Waterloo, Jane Feller of Waterloo, Annette & Brian Fox of Auburn and Midge & Brian Kelham of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parent and 4 brother-in-law’s, Herman Buchs, Rex Feller, Denny Walker and Rod Stafford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Monday, February 24, 2025 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1098 County Road 39, Waterloo with burial to follow the Mass in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Monsignor Bob Schulte with be officiating. Visitation is Sunday February 23, 2025 from 2 to 6 PM at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, IN 46793. A Rosary will be recited at 6 PM following the visitation.
