Oma J. Sparkman, 77, of Waterloo, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler, Indiana.
She was born February 24, 1946, in Gunlock, Kentucky to Lonzo and Ethel (Shepherd) Vanderpool. Oma graduated from Alice Lloyd College with an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts.
Oma married Burnis G. Sparkman on September 3, 1965, in Kendallville, Indiana, and he passed away on September 22, 2018.
She worked as a finisher at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company for 32 years, retiring in 1999.
Oma was a member of the Waterloo Freewill Baptist Church in Waterloo, Indiana.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony W. and Leanne Sparkman of St. Joe, and Brian and Shanna Sparkman of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Kyle Sparkman, Tyler Sparkman, Chase Sparkman, A.J. Sparkman and Alex Sparkman; five siblings and their spouses, Banner and Merita Vanderpool of Hippo, Kentucky, Milton Vanderpool of Martin, Kentucky, Lorene and Danny King of Tollesboro, Kentucky, Connie S. and Jay Handshoe of Hueysville, Kentucky and Virginia Prater of Hueysville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Marvin Vanderpool and Claude Vanderpool.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with the Rev. Ron Stambaugh officiating.
Burial will take place at Waterloo Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the funeral home.
