Auburn – Richard Philip Gibson, 84, died Thursday November 11, 2021 at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn. He was born November 8, 1937 in Fort Wayne. His father was Robert Moore and his mother was Mary (Wilson) Bloom. He worked at GTE in Fort Wayne for 20 years before retiring in 1999. He was also the owner of Gibson’s Sports Collectables in Fort Wayne and was a lifelong coin dealer. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the Leo American Legion, NRA, and American Numismatic Association. He was also a member of B.A.S.S., North American Fishing and Hunting Club, Michigan State Numismatic Society and was a member of the former Butler Eagles. He married Barbara Hemlinger on September 3, 1960 in Fort Wayne and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter and son, Alisa McDowell and her husband Kevin of Auburn and Philip Gibson of Auburn; a granddaughter Katelyn Smith of Auburn; two brothers, Robert (Sherry) Moore of Punta Gorda, Florida and James (Sharon) Moore of Auburn; a sister, Anne Myers of Chandler, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Gibson and Tom Hill and a sister Sandra Whitz. Per Mr. Gibsons wishes a private family service will be held at a later date.
