Richard Lilly Obituary

Richard L. Lilly, 59, moved on to his next journey on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. A lifelong resident of DeKalb County, he was living in Auburn, Indiana at the time of his passing. He was a proud member of the Eastside High School Class of 1985.

Rick was born on August 3, 1966, to Jack L. Lilly, Sr. and Lesley B. (Carnahan) Lilly, who preceded him in death. He missed them dearly and spoke of them often. He is survived by his daughter, Shawnda Lawrence, and three grandchildren: Naayele Ackon, Raidon Ackon, and Tayton Gaff. He is also survived by his brothers, Jack L. Lilly, Jr. (Shannon Lilly) and Michael J. Lilly (Lisa Petre).

Rick was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, including Alissa (James) Mock, Jestene Lilly, Jayden (Whitney) Lilly, Derek (Iris) Lilly, Bodhi Mock, Beckett Lilly, Dawson Lilly, Presley Lilly, and Jesse Lilly. He is remembered by extended family, including aunts, an uncle, and many cousins.

Rick was a truly unique character who lived a full and adventurous life—a perfect example of someone who marched to the beat of his own drum. He had a deep appreciation for the past while staying keenly aware of the present. He was always ready for a lively debate, especially when it came to politics or conspiracy theories.

He loved spending time with family and friends, and every gathering became a party. Rick enjoyed karaoke, his cats, boat rides, and swimming in the local lakes. Two items remained on his bucket list: owning a Harley-Davidson and joining a band—we are certain he will find a way to check those off as he continues his voyage. We are also certain that the legendary stories of Rick Lilly will live on and on!

The family asks that friends take a moment to honor Rick by pouring something strong, playing some Motörhead or Black Sabbath with the volume as high as you can stand it, and raising a glass one last time: “To Rick—turn it up loud and save us a spot, brother.”
