Richard W. Mawe

Richard W. Mawe, 88, of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.

He was born Oct. 29, 1937, in Manchester, Iowa, to William C. and Marian M. (McCarthy) Mawe.

Rich was a 1956 graduate of Manchester High School and a 1960 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He played fullback for the Iowa State Cyclones during his freshman year, was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and ROTC.

Rich was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, 1960-1963. He served as a captain and was among the first Marines to land at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

He married Beverly Ann Corey on July 13, 1963, in Woodbury, New Jersey. They were married 61 years, until her death on Dec. 9, 2024.

The couple resided in California until 1964, then lived on the family farm in Iowa until 1976. That year, the family moved to Auburn, where Rich continued to farm in various poultry operations in northeast Indiana while also working in agriculture sales management. He was employed by Ralston Purina and Farmland Industries, and retired in 2000 from Archer-Daniels-Midland. Following his retirement, he served as an event supervisor at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, where he enjoyed meeting and working with people from around the world.

He was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church in Indiana where he served on the session and as a deacon. He volunteered with the Friends Table mission of the church for 17 years.

Rich was a member of the Rotary Club in Manchester and Auburn and was a founding member of the American Cancer Society chapter in Auburn. He often enjoyed golfing at Greenhurst Country Club, spending time with friends and traveling with Bev.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Marie and David Hughes of Madison, Wisconsin, and Laura Ann Mawe of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Ethan William Mawe, Erin Elizabeth Hughes and Catherine Marie Hughes; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jeryl Mawe of Des Moines; two nieces, Diane (Rob) Mathuny and Marcia Mawe, and one nephew, Mark (Lynn) Mawe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2026, at the Auburn Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Lawrence officiating.

A private family burial service with military honors will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. July 31 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, and one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
