Robert DeMint Obituary

Robert "Bob" DeMint, 76, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025 at Parkview DeKalb Hospital.

Celebration of Bob's Life will take place from noon - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the Garrett American Legion Post 178, 515 W. 5th Ave., Garrett. Please come join us and share a story or two and drink a soda or a beer on Bob.

He was born September 30, 1948 in Garrett, Indiana to Robert and Ida (Estes) DeMint.

He married Dorothey Wise on May 1st, 1971 in Auburn. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2008.

A graduate of the Garrett High School Class of 1966, Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force as a K-9 Security Policeman (ironic from the stories of mischief I’ve heard) from 1967 to 1970 serving overseas tours in Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Thailand.  He spent many years at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau Co-Op and DeKalb Agra. After many years of bouncing across fields in a “Big A”, Bob chose a higher paying and less stressful job driving a semi for Air Products until retirement. Upon retirement, Bob enjoyed his life spending his time with his faithful friends (Golden Retrievers) Doc and then Grady.

His immediate family includes his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Michelle DeMint, their three daughters, Hope DeMint (and Jacob Smith), Annika DeMint, and Erika and Thomas Caschetta; his significant other Marilyn Culler and her children, Alex Culler and Carrie Garrison.

Those that knew him best have described him as caring, giving, and funny.  Bob loved to ride around on his golf cart with his dog and go to the Blue Moon to get an ice cream cone with Grady.  No matter who he met, he was always good for a story or a joke.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion in Garrett where Bob was a member for over 50 years at a later date. The gathering will be called “A Beer on Bob”, which will be funny since everyone knows he complained about the beer prices anywhere he went. If anyone would like to make contributions in his honor or memory to the DeKalb County Humane Society, the animals there would be grateful and so would his family.

My Dad would be upset at the number of words used here, because he simply wanted his obituary to say “Bob Died”.

So to honor my Dad’s wishes…

BOB DIED!
