Robert B. "Bob" Herberger

AUBURN — Robert B. “Bob” Herberger passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at Rambling Oaks Assisted Living Center in Highland Village, Texas.

He was born and raised in Garrett Indiana. Bob was a graduate of Garrett High School in 1938. He attended Indiana University, majoring in journalism.

In January 1942, he enlisted in the Army/Air Corp at Indianapolis and served in the WWII Pacific theater from 1941-1945.

Bob married Elizabeth Schaab in 1946 in Auburn, where they lived for 57 years.

Bob worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne for 30 years.

He was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church for a number of years, serving as Sunday school teacher, elder, deacon and trustee. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He had many hobbies including woodworking, stain glass work, building model wood ships, fishing and reading.

His wife Elizabeth preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2003. A few years later he moved to Flower Mound, Texas, where he lived with his daughter, Debbie, for seven years. He then moved into Rambling Oaks Assisted Living Center where he lived until his death.

He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Kaiser and husband Stephen, who live in Flower Mound, Texas, and Melinda Show and husband Burke, who live in Cornelius, North Carolina. He has four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn.

Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the United States Army and American Legion Post 97 of Auburn.
