Robert Richmond Obituary

Robert Lee Richmond, age 89 of Auburn, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.

Bob was born on November 8, 1934 in Hicksville, Ohio to Argil and Winifred (Harper) Richmond. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Joe High School where he led DeKalb County in scoring as a freshman member of the basketball team.

He married Carolyn Kurtz on September 18, 1971 in Angola. She resides in Auburn.

Bob joined the U.S. Army in 1954. Bob worked for Butler and Butler Construction in Auburn as a supervisor and a heavy equipment operator. He was with Butler and Butler for over 40 years before retiring in 1997. Bob was a life member of the Auburn American Legion Post 97 where he held several offices over the years. He was also a life member of the Hicksville Eagles 2556.

Bob was an avid gardener and took great pride in his lawn and flower gardens, as a result, their home was featured in the Garden Walk in 2000 and 2009.They also received the Environmental Award from the city of Auburn in 1999. Bob loved playing golf and he was an avid woodworker, even building some of the furniture for their home.

His loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn Richmond of Auburn.

Son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Shawn Hoffer of Lafayette, Indiana.

Daughter; Monica Scheeler, Son; Robert Craig Richmond.

Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

Brother-in-law; Tom Kurtz of Edon, Ohio.

Brother-in-law: Steve Kurtz of Edgerton, Ohio.

Sister-in-law and brother-in law; Elaine Lirot and Ken Houghton of Bronson, Michigan.

Sister-in-law; Denice Kurtz of Auburn.

Bob was proceeded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, DuWayne “Bub” and Shirley Richmond; daughter Kamala Richmond; two brothers-in-law; Bill Kurtz and Don Kurtz; sister and brother-in-law; Mary (Kurtz) and Bill Word, Sisters-in-law; Jane (Kurtz) Lambcke and Vickie Kurtz.

A special thank you to nieces Stephanie Walker and Shelley Johnson.

There will be a private graveside service with a celebration of life at a later date.

Memorials can be given in memory of Bob to the family so that they can donate to various charities. Checks may be made payable to Carolyn Richmond and sent to the funeral home at 1860 South Center Street, Auburn, Indiana 46706.
