Ruth M. Hulbert, 87, of Butler, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
She was born on July 19, 1937, in San Diego, California.
She was a 1955 graduate of Jordan High School in Long Beach, California. In 1989, at the age of 56, she graduated from Purdue University in Fort Wayne with a Bachelor’s
degree in Nursing.
Ruth married Loren Lee Hulbert on April 3, 1955, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and he passed away on July 12, 2000.
Ruth worked at Meadowhaven Health Center, which was later bought out by The Laurels of DeKalb. She was a nurse’s aide and QMA until she graduated from college and then became a registered nurse.
She was a member of Crossroads of Zion Church in Hamilton.
Ruth also was a member of American Legion Post 202 of Butler and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, playing Word Trip and Sudoku on her tablet, and as a young mother she enjoyed gardening. She loved playing Bingo, and was a very competitive card player with her ex-son-in-law, Don DeLong. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also always found the good in everyone.
Surviving are four daughters and their spouses, Gail Marie and Robert Eberly, of Waterloo, Teresa Ann and Alan Willibey, of Butler, Bernice Louise DeLong, of Butler and Lauren Lee Hulbert-Woods, of Butler; seven grandchildren, Christoffer Willibey, Kellie Stuckey, Tim DeLong, Todd DeLong, Danny Lawson, Carrie Jones and Treana Eberly; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandsons; brother, James B. Waterson Jr., of Fort Wayne; and her dog, Sammy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James B. and Teresa (Spezzi) Waterson; husband, Loren Lee Hulbert; and a son-in-law, Scott Woods.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with Pastor Gene Thimlar officiating.
Burial will take place at Eddy Cemetery in rural Hamilton.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
