Butler – Sarah L Stemen, 102, passed away Tuesday October 28, 2025 at Laurels of DeKalb in Butler.
She was born July 25, 1923 in Churubusco to Adam and Mamie I (Cross) Boggs.
Sarah was a 1941 graduate of Huntertown High School.
During WWII she worked at Wayne Pump in Fort Wayne making 20 MM machine gun bullets, she was one of those women known as “Rosie the Riveter”. After WWII she was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the family farm.
Sarah was a member of Christ Church in Butler. She loved flowers, gardening and was an avid follower of the Chicago Cubs.
She married John J Stemen on September 19, 1944 in LaGrange and he passed away in August 2010.
Surviving are two sons and daughter in laws, Jack C and Sharon Stemen of Butler and Thomas E and Mary Jo Stemen of Butler; 9 grandchildren, Natalie Banard, Sara Brown, Rachel Federow, Clinton Stemen, Tracy Heinze, Lori Johnson, Carie Louth, Shelly Eicker, and Stacey Thomas; 23 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers, Harold Boggs and Richard Boggs.
Services will be 2 PM Saturday November 1, 2025 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo, IN 46793 with burial to follow the service in Butler Cemetery, Butler, IN. Calling is 3 hours prior to the service from 11 to 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials can be given in memory of Sarah to Christ Church in Butler.
