Shelly Lynn Somkit, 57, of Corunna, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.
She was born July 12, 1967, in Auburn, Indiana to Donald Roy and Goldie Belle (Hollopeter) Litten.
Shelly was a 1985 graduate of DeKalb High School. She attended IVY Tech Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Teaching and Early Childhood Development.
She married Yort Somkit on January 1, 1995, in Waterloo, and he survives in Corunna.
Shelly was a teacher at the Early Head Start Center in Waterloo for over 20 years.
She was a member of the New Hope Christian Center in Waterloo.
Shelly’s world revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts with her grandchildren and attending the many sporting events. She also loved her dogs.
Also surviving are four children, Zachary A. (April) Somkit of Kendallville, Brittany D. (Ronnie) Conley of Rome City, Isaac G. Somkit of Auburn and Amanda R. (Adam) Sonner of Butler; six grandchildren, Jaiden Myers, Alyssa Myers, Lacey Ramey, Liegha Myers, Mikah Folden and Lilliana Sonner; brother, Donald G. Litten of Auburn; nephew, Malachai (Holly) Litten of Garrett; and an uncle, Joe (Donna Hollopeter of Huntington.
Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo.
Burial will take place at Sedan Cemetery at a later date.
