Shirley Ann (Glass) Mettert

Shirley A. (Glass) Mettert, 89, of Auburn, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 15, 2024, surrounded by family.

She was born on January 11, 1935, in Auburn.

She married James H. “Jim” Mettert on November 29, 1950, in Auburn. They were married 66 years and he preceded her in death on February 1, 2017.

Jim and Shirley co-founded the family business, Mettert’s WaterCare of Auburn, in 1968. She was the face of the business for more than 35 years.

She was a founding member of Indian Village Church of God, helping to build the church with her own hands. She was a current member of County Line Church of God Auburn.

Shirley loved God, her family, gardening, fishing, reading, traveling and Indiana University sports. She also loved playing euchre, dominoes and other games with her family.

Shirley had a generous and giving spirit, preferring to stay behind the scenes and anonymous. She nurtured her family with quiet strength and fortitude, and was an integral part of gathering the family together, which gave us a solid family core.

She will be greatly missed by those who survive her, including her five children and their spouses, James H. “Jim” Mettert II (Kathy), of Auburn, Ronald L “Ron” Mettert (Sharon), of Auburn, Sherrel A. Garrett, of Port St Lucie, Florida, Antonia R. Mettert, of Auburn and Christine L. Guy (Tracy), of Auburn; 10 grandchildren, Ryan E. Mettert, Kassandra L. Gerig, Kandice N. Burns, Andrea R. Cohn, Laura N. Mettert, Carla Swangin, Amy Lantz, Daniel D. Ogden, Lyhia M. Ogden and Erin M. DePew; and 13 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). She is also survived by several in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Birdie (Ruhl) Glass; three sisters, Mary, Betty and Florine; and a son-in-law, Larry Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 20, 2024 at County Line Church of God, 602 Erie Pass in Auburn with Misty Gillian officiating.

Burial will take place at Cedar Creek Cemetery in rural Garrett.

Visitation will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street in Auburn.
