Stephen “Carman” Middaugh, 75, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at his home in rural Auburn.
He was born July 8, 1948, in Auburn, Indiana, to Warren E. and Blanche (Ash) Middaugh.
Carman was a 1969 graduate of Auburn High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College where he graduated with an associate's degree in HVAC.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving from 1972-1976. He was stationed at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina and in Okinawa, Japan.
He married LuAnn Long on Oct. 23, 1971, in Auburn, Indiana.
Carman worked alongside his father as a farmer. He worked at the Dana Corporation in Auburn, where he was a department head in the heat treat department and he also served as a union representative. He also owned and operated Middaugh Appliance Repair.
He was a member of Path of Life Community Church in Garrett.
Carman was a lifetime member of Auburn American Legion Post 97 and was a member of UAW Local 164.
He enjoyed working on cars, riding his motorcycle and spending winters at Palm Shadows in Donna, Texas.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, LuAnn Middaugh, of Auburn; five daughters, Anna “Marie” (Chris) Brott, of Goshen, Rebecca D. (Chad) Arterburn, of Auburn, April D. (Dean) Middaugh-Kallmyer, of Auburn, Delilah I. (Shawn) Geiger, of Fort Wayne and Bobbie J. Middaugh, of Dayton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Johnson, Ariel (Gauge P.) Arterburn, Jaclyn (Bobbi) Spencer, Jasmine (Travis) Fett, Danielle (Ryan) Landis, Megra (Austin) O’Connell, Chandler Arterburn, Jackson Kallmyer, Raeanna Smith and Natalia Smith; three step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry Middaugh; sister; Patricia Middleton; and a grandson, Zachary Brown.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service. Pastor David Beard will be officiating.
Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, 2023, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carman’s family, in care of LuAnn Middaugh to help with expenses.
