Susan Kay Krontz, 83, of Butler, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.
She was born June 5, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Robert and Dorotha (Keesler) Gaskill.
Susan married William Neil Krontz on Sept. 11, 1959, and he passed away on July 13, 2023.
She was a secretary for the superintendent of DeKalb Eastern School District for several years and later worked at Hendrickson Tandem. Susan and her husband, Bill, owned and operated Butler Automotive Inc., for 35 years.
Susan was a member of It’s Sew Easy sewing club, was a former member of American Legion Post 202 Auxiliary in Butler and was a former member of American Legion Post 467 Auxiliary of Hamilton. She also enjoyed volunteering at the DeKalb Humane Society when it was located outside of Butler.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are three daughters, Tammy and Scott Schuller, of Waterloo, Melinda Krontz, of Butler and Lisa and Kenneth Kessler, of Hamilton; son, William N. Krontz II, of Butler; six grandchildren, Talon Herschberger, Kyle Herschberger, Caleb Hershberger, Joshua Kessler, Rian Kessler and Mayla Schuller; six great-grandchildren; three siblings, Linda Anderson, of San Diego, California, Tim and Deb Gaskill, of Fort Wayne and Don Gaskill, of Butler; two brothers-in-law, Howard Dale Krontz, of Kendallville and Carl Dean Krontz, of Manitou Beach, Michigan; and a longtime friend, Mary Hopkins, of Summerville, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Steven Kessler; brother, Robert Gaskill II; two sisters, Patty Knepper and Judy Short; and a half-sister, Kate Johnson.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date.
