Virginia Irene (Walters) Simons

Virginia Irene Simons, 89, of Auburn, and formerly of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, in Auburn.

She was born Jan. 5, 1935, in Auburn, Indiana, to Harold D. and Vera (Fisher) Walters.

Virginia was a 1953 graduate of Auburn High School. During high school, Virginia began teaching swimming lessons at the YMCA in Auburn, which continued for several years. She worked at the Pleasant Lake Gas Mart.

After graduating, Virginia was a secretary at the high school.

She married Thomas L. Simons on Nov. 27, 1954, in Auburn, Indiana. He passed away on Dec. 4, 2022.

Virginia was a homemaker. She worked alongside her husband, Tom, on the family farm in Pleasant Lake for 54 years.

She was a member of Pleasant Lake Methodist Church. Virginia was a true witness of the Lord.

Virginia enjoyed Bible studies, bowling, and hosting family gatherings.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are four children and their spouses, Jill and Dave Willman, of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Jan and Mark Rosenbaum, of Savannah, Georgia, Julie and Mike Slone, of Auburn and Tim and Kelly Simons, of Orland; eight grandchildren, Simon and Christina Willman, Lacey and Matt Jensen, Sterling Willman, Kristi Sanborn, Kevin and Monica Sanborn, Jason and Aimee Slone, Ashlee and Michael Guthrie and Ryan and Jessica Slone; 12 great-grandchildren, Vera and Sasha Willman, Clara and Davis Jensen, Olivia and Lauren Murphy; Jack and Ben Sanborn, Harper and Addison Slone, Elly Cossairt and Charlie Streb.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Thomas H. Simons; grandson, Andrew Rosenbaum; and five siblings, Barbara Wurm, LaVera Walters, Janet Foreman and Richard Walters; and an infant brother, Keith Walters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.

Jill and Dave Willman, along with Pastor Ryan Kain will be officiating.

Visitation also will be from 3-6 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at the funeral home.
