Wendell A. Phillips

Wendell A. Phillips, age 89, of Butler passed away on February 14, 2019 at the Laurels of DeKalb Nursing Home in Butler. 

Mr. Phillips was born on February 7, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Winfred and Velma (Gross) Phillips.  When Wendell was 2 years old his family moved to Hamilton, Indiana.  He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1948.  He then attended International Business College from 1949 to 1950.

He married Sondra S. Sicard on December 3, 1955 at her family’s Butler home.  She resides in Butler. 

Over the years Mr. Phillips worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne, Weatherhead in Angola, Bohn Aluminum in Butler and Industrial Sanitation for 15 years retiring in 1996. 

Mr. Phillips was a former member of the Butler Lions Club and the Butler Eagles.  He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.  He was a little league baseball coach in Angola and he also umpired little league baseball games.  His love for the game of baseball was only surpassed by his love for family.  He loved spending time with his family! 

Survivors include: 

His wife of 63 years; Sondra Phillips of Butler.

Daughter and son-in-law; Kimberly and James Massie.

Daughter and son-in-law; Jody and Jeff Porter.

Son; Michael Phillips.

5 grandchildren and their spouses; Amanda and Patrick Doty, Matthew Pedersen, Kristin and Josh Sunday, Tyler and Sadie Pedersen and Nathan Massie.

3 step grandchildren and their spouses; Josh and Tonya Porter, Adam and Samantha Porter and Joe and Marlin Porter. 

6 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; William Phillips.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Interment will take place at the Butler Cemetery.
