Yvonne Carolyn (Porter) Greenfield

Auburn – Yvonne Carolyn Greenfield, 89, of Auburn passed away May 8, 2026 at Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.

She was born March 29, 1937 in Garrett to Fred S. and Alice E. (Borg) Porter.

Yvonne was a 1955 Graduate of Garrett High School.

She worked for 25 years for Fort Wayne Vehicle Auction before retiring in 2007.

Yvonne volunteered at DeKalb Memorial/Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn for 13 years. She loved watching and supporting her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren participate in sports and dance. Her family was her pride and joy. Yvonne had a passion for racing and because of that she worked at several racetracks from the 1960’s – 1980’s. Among them were Avilla Motor Speedway where she worked in the pit concessions stand beginning in 1965, from 1970-1974 she was the scorer. In 1975-76 she scored at Stueben County Speedway in Angola. 1978 found her back at good old Avilla, the track that she loved the most, again as the scorer. 1979 found here at the pit gate ticket booth the job she loved the most because she joked with the drivers. In 1985 it was back to the scoring tower to work with her son Barry until he moved to the flag stand, she spent the next year and a half scoring with her daughter Robin. The next year she got a new partner in Nancy Bice, then it was back to the pit gate. She and her son and daughter also scored at Bryan Speedway in Bryan, OH.

She also enjoyed trips to Daytona Speedway, Atlanta Speedway with her buddy Nancy Bice. She loved watching NASCAR on television and jeered for Dale Earnhardt Sr., Jeff Gordon as well as Tony Stewart.

She is survived by a son Barry Greenfield of Auburn and a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Randy Leins of Auburn; grandchildren, Stacy (Andy) Schmidt, Jessica (Justin) Fryback, Matt (Tessa) Leins and Ryan (Jamie) Greenfield; great grandchildren, Connor Schmidt, Reese Schmidt, Quinn Schmidt, Addy Reinoehl, Aubrey Leins, Nash Leins and Gavin Franklin; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Cross of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marlasue “Sue” Cross.

Services will be 1 PM Friday, May 15, 2026 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN 46706. Calling is 2 hours prior to the service Friday from 11 to 1 at the funeral home.
