My Grams was the best! She was always kind to others and never used a harsh word. Instead of saying something I know she wanted to, cause I was thinking it too, she'd say"Oh my.." and leave it at that. She was funny, making silly jokes or comments. She'd tell us kids to wash our "Patties" Silly and fun, that was her. She let me help her in the kitchen from a young age. I watched her peel potatoes, onions, make soup, homemade noodles, Swedish pancakes, so yummy! She was a good cook, with all sorts of recipes in her little box. I have her kitchen engraved in my memory. We'd walk the garden picking ripe tomatoes & other veggies etc,, hang the laundry out to dry, little things. I liked how she was always serving or volunteering to help others, the Himack center, the thrift store, church. Grams had a servants heart. We kept in touch by letters, she wrote me up til a few years ago. I cannot tell you how great it was to go to mailbox and get a letter from her, made my day, literally!!, I always admired her nice writing especially as old as she was. She spoke about the weather, daily happenings, what was in the garden and what grandpa was up to, in the garage usually. I still have some of her letters.
We'd talk on the phone once a month or more. I'd usually call after work while I was making dinner. I loved chatting with her. I miss her and am so thankful to have had her as my Grandma. Until we meet again in heaven with Jesus, I will treasure her precious memory.

My mother, Marilyn, and father Bill, were dear, old friends of Maxine and Howard. I remember playing in the yard with the Carper boys when we were kids. Bill and Howard worked together in the Dusenberg building.

What a lovely, friendly, lady. She had the gift of hospitality for certain. I met Maxine when she served as volunteer receptionist at the senior center in Auburn. When my Mom moved here from out of state, they were instant friends. We also shared mutual friends, like Dr. Coleman's wife Eva. I also spent time with her when her husband stayed in the nursing home. I was just thinking of her lately, because I had not bumped into her in the last few months. Maxine was a very special person who will be missed by many of us. Big reunion going on in heaven!
