Larry N. “Boomer” Cleland, 69, of Garrett died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Auburn Village Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Auburn.

He was born April 15, 1948, in Garrett to the late Donald E. and Catherine (Kern) Cleland.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Cleland worked for over 30 years for the CSX Railroad where he served 19 years as railroad conductor and the remainder as second shift yardmaster, retiring in 2007.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 178 of Garrett and the Garrett Eagles.

He married Phyllis J. Kimmel on Oct. 15, 1968, in DeKalb County, and she survives in Garrett. Also surviving are a brother and four sisters.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Creek Cemetery, 6840 C.R. 11A, Auburn, with military honors being conducted by the United States Marine Corps and American Legion Post 178 of Garrett.

Memorials are to the DeKalb County Humane Shelter.
