AUBURN — Richard A. “Flip” Flotow, 80, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home in rural Auburn.

He was born June 6, 1932, in Fort Wayne to Arthur and Mary (Minier) Flotow.

Flip was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He started working in 1957 at the Dana Corp. in Fort Wayne and transferred to the Dana Corp. in Auburn where he later retired as senior design engineer in 1992. After retiring, Flip volunteered for the National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (N.A.T.M.U.S.). He was a huge car enthusiast and enjoyed volunteering his time during the fall auction at the Kruse Auction Park.

Flip was a member of the Shifters Car Club and the American Legion Post 178 of Garrett.

Surviving is a daughter, Stephanie K. Hanks of Clearwater, Florida; a son, Stuart S. (Heather Kneubuhler) of Butler; four grandchildren, Alisha Hanks of Portland, Oregon, Austin Hanks of Fort Wayne, Jera (Brad) Fowler of Garrett, and Alexandria Flotow of Garrett; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck (Sandy) Flotow of Fort Wayne, and Arthur Flotow Jr. of Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Linda Fancil of Fort Wayne, and Phyllis Myrdock of Sun City, Arizona.

In addition to his parents, Flip was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon Flotow and Joseph Flotow; and two sisters, Patsy Hardin and Delores Kinney.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Flip’s life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States (N.A.T.M.U.S.), 1000 Gordon M. Buehrig Place, Auburn.

The family request no floral arrangements, and memorial donations be directed to N.A.T.M.U.S. or the Alzheimer’s Association.
